Interactive Designer

  • NY, LA, SF, Fort Lauderdale, Nashville, Atlanta
  • $50–70/hr

CBS Sports tells stories for millions of fans. Some are best told visually: they move, they react, they pull you down the page.

This job is a fusion of design and storytelling. Working with our editors and producers, you’ll turn stat lines, buzzer-beaters, decades-old rivalries, and title runs into experiences that carry the entertainment of the games themselves. That takes a creative storyteller who pushes what the new tools can do, and the judgment to know when to go big on a pull quote, when a story wants an immersive timeline or an interactive card layout, and when to build something nobody has seen yet. The thing that makes an audience go wow. If that’s you, we want you.

What this job is

You design and build immersive interactive stories, from long-form scroll pieces to animated data, and ship them yourself across CBS Sports web and apps. No queue, no handoff. The production side is handled; the craft is on you.

The stories come from everywhere. Editorial brings the narrative, the copy, the video. Sometimes it’s a tentpole on the calendar, sometimes a fresh idea from another corner of the company. You help decide what deserves the full treatment, then you build it. Pieces this ambitious used to stay on the whiteboard. Now they ship in days. Who you are

  • Craft first. Your visual bar is the reason we will hire you. Typography, composition, color, restraint. You sweat the details most people never notice.
  • Motion instincts. You know when a transition earns its place and when it is noise.
  • Editorial sense. You know what makes a story land, and you push the visuals to lift it. The design serves the story, not the other way around.
  • Not a developer. You direct one. You build in Cursor or a similar AI tool until the motion and interaction match what is in your head, and you know enough HTML and CSS to spot when it is lying to you. The tools make you faster, not sloppier.
  • Good with a blank page. A rough brief and a deadline are enough. You find the shape of the piece from there.

Basic qualifications

  • A portfolio that shows exceptional visual design and a strong editorial sense. Show us how you use design to tell a story better.
  • An eagerness to build with AI coding tools like Cursor or Claude. If you already have shipped interactive work to show, even better.
  • Enough HTML and CSS to understand how the web works

Additional qualifications

  • Background in editorial, sports, or entertainment storytelling
  • Motion design or animation experience
  • Experience turning one-off work into reusable templates or systems

What to send

Live links. Send the work you’re proudest of. Shipped interactive pieces are great if you have them, but a portfolio of beautiful, well-told work stands on its own. Be ready to talk about how you build with AI, or how you’d like to start.
